There are some liposuction side effects that have long been associated with the procedure and accepted as a calculable risk of liposuction. However, with improved methods such as laser liposuction, the risk of both serious and minor complications have been greatly reduced or eliminated altogether.

In a major way, laser lipo has changed how both patient and surgeons view liposuction procedures. The improved precision and accuracy in targeting fat cells while leaving neighboring tissue relatively untouched has remarkably reduced the pain and discomfort a patient has to go through after the procedure. This is a great relief since recovery can be the toughest part of almost any surgical procedure due to the duration and slow progress.

The most common reasons for the occurrence of side effects that affect effective recovery is improper clean up after the surgery. Post surgical procedures cannot be skipped or shorthanded in any way by the surgeon or the patient will experience some traumatic, but minor and temporary problems. Some common problems include discoloration of the skin caused by the pooling of blood in the area. These problems are minimized or prevented by proper draining of fluids in the area.

Excessive blood loss has long been the leading problem in traditional liposuction procedures. But with laser liposuction, there is much less chance of damaging blood vessels thus reducing the amount of leaked blood. Any bleeding caused by small capillaries that are disrupted by the laser usually dries up as a result of the heat generated by the laser. This keeps the area much cleaner and improves the recovery after the procedure.

While being a precision system has its benefits the fat is removed at a much slower pace where small amounts are removed at a time. Of course this just means that the final results offer more definition than traditional liposuction. It is not uncommon for a plastic surgeon to use traditional liposuction methods for large areas and then switch to laser assisted lipo for the final touch up.
